PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Senior captain
Blake O'Neill '19 assisted on a career-high three goals to help the Elmira College men's ice hockey team pick up a pivotal 5-2 victory over Manhattanville College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Friday night. With the win, the Soaring Eagles remained in third place in the UCHC standings.
O'Neill led all skaters with three points, all coming on assists.

Anthony Parrucci '20, added goals for the Soaring Eagles.
Marty Kapoian '22,
Harry Kramer '20 and
Connor Powell '20 all finished with one assist each.
In goal,
Jake Sabourin '21 backstopped the Soaring Eagle defense with 32 saves en route to his sixth win of the season. He made double-digit saves in the first and third periods, including a 14-save effort in the final frame.
Moses put the Purple and Gold out in front by scoring 5:22 into the opening period. A pass from behind the cage by
Marty Kapoian '22 found Moses in the slot, where he slid the puck past Manhattanville's Mac Vail for the goal.
Manhattanville's Joel Knight leveled the contest at 1-1 just over five minutes later, as he whizzed the puck from the right point through traffic and beat Sabourin, who was screened on the play. The Valiants would go on to outshoot Elmira, 13-6, in the first period, but the two teams skated into the first intermission deadlocked at 1-1.
Back-to-back goals in an 11-second span early in the second stanza gave the Soaring Eagles a 3-1 lead, one that stood through the end of the period.
Kicking things off for Elmira was Lafayette, who tipped-in a shot from O'Neill at 3:12. The goal was Lafayette's first of the 2018-19 campaign. Cuce padded the Soaring Eagle lead at 3:23, as the junior forward re-directed a shot from the point by Kramer into the back of the cage for his 10th of the season. Powell was credited with the secondary assist on the Cuce tally.
Kenny McLean trimmed the Elmira lead to just one, 3-2, at the 6:10 mark of the third period, but Elmira answered in a big way with a pair of goals midway through the period to put today's contest out of reach.
On an odd-man rush, set-up by some sleek skating by O'Neill, Elmira saw the fourth-year defender race into the zone and draw in a defender before dumping a pass to Parrucci. At the right faceoff dot, Parrucci rifled a shot over the shoulder of Manhattanville's Vail for the insurance goal at 10:29.
Then at the 15:30 mark, Ford tallied his 11th goal of the season on another great sequence of passing. A pass from O'Neill at the point found Cuce behind the Manhattanville cage, where he skated around the net and dished the puck to Ford in the slot. From there, Ford buried the wrist shot for EC's fifth and final goal of the night, which sealed a 5-2 victory for the Soaring Eagles.
In His Own Words…
Head Coach
Aaron Saul '98 shares his thoughts on EC's win…
"It was a huge win to stay in the top half of the league standings. Tonight was Blake's best game of the year, he was a true leader tonight. We have been working on the d-side of the puck since we've been back from break and it's good to see it's working for us."
