ELMIRA, N.Y. -- A fast start by The Sage Colleges proved to be the difference on Friday evening, as the Elmira College women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit in Speidel Gymnasium, falling by a final score of 72-46.

Despite owning a 24-18 advantage in the paint and earning 22 points off of Sage's miscues, the Soaring Eagles struggled to contain the Gators' high-flying attack. Emily Parslow led the charge for Sage, finishing the contest with 28 points, while Lauren Cross and Sammy Pasinella finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Lindsey Heaton '19 reached double-figures for the seventh consecutive game, as the senior posted a team-high 19 points.

The Soaring Eagles slowed the Gators offense as the game wore on, as Sage continually found less success in each quarter. Elmira took the final quarter, as the Purple and Gold outscored Sage 25-14 in the final 10 minutes. Back-to-back buckets from Heaton and Lauren Franklin '20 sparked EC's offense two minutes into the quarter. The Soaring Eagles continued to chip away at the deficit as a steal-and-score from Rachel Vespucci '19 followed a jumper from Franklin. It was too little, too late, however, as Sage held on to pick up the Empire 8 Conference victory.
