ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team was defeated by Stevens Institute of Technology by a final score of 71-48 during Saturday afternoon's Empire 8 Conference matchup at Speidel Gymnasium.

Senior Lindsey Heaton '19 continued to score at a torrid pace, as the New Milford, Connecticut, native led all players with a game-high 20 points. Heaton did the bulk of her damage from the foul line by finishing a perfect 11-of-11. Including Friday's E8 contest against The Sage Colleges, the fourth-year point guard went 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) from the charity stripe over the weekend.

Junior Lauren Franklin '20 finished with eight points and a team-leading four assists. Fourth-year forward Rachel Vespucci '19 added to her team lead in rebounds by gathering a 10 to go along with six points. Junior guard Bridget Yaw '20 also netted six points.

Elmira managed to frustrate Stevens' offense early in the opening quarter, holding the Ducks to just two points for nearly four minutes. In that span, the Ducks were held to just one field goal on seven tries. Meanwhile, Yaw scored the game's first two points, and Franklin nailed a 3-pointer to put EC ahead 5-2. The two of Heaton's free throws extended the lead to five points.

Sally Hogan '19 was responsible for the next four Soaring Eagle points, but the Ducks were able to find their groove and closed the first quarter on a 21-4 run. Stevens maintained a comfortable advantage for the remainder of the contest, although the Purple and Gold won the final quarter, 15-13.
