ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team dropped an Empire 8 Conference contest on the road on Saturday afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles fell by a slim 1-0 margin to the Hawks of Hartwick College.
The Soaring Eagles (2-9-0, 0-4-0 E8) struggled to handle the high press of the Hawks (8-3-1, 3-0-1 E8), as Hartwick peppered EC with 34 shots.
Ally Knorr-Anderson '23 stood tall in net for the Purple and Gold, totaling nine saves over the full 90 minutes of action.
Elmira withstood a barrage of shots throughout the first half and had a chance to strike in the 41st minute. The Soaring Eagles caught Hartwick on a counter-attack, and the ball found its way to
Hailey Boris '21. The junior fired a shot on target, but the Hawks' Cassandra Robataille snuffed out the scoring chance.
The Purple and Gold found themselves with another chance to strike in the 57th minute, but
Taylor Hanson '21 saw her effort fall into the arms of Robataille. The Hawks eventually broke through in the 63rd minute, as Gabrielle Kreppein rifled a shot into the right side of the net that beat Knorr-Anderson, to seal the game for Hartwick.
