CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team saw its two-game win streak snapped on the road this evening by SUNY Cortland, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 69-43 decision. Elmira's record sits at 2-2, while the Red Dragons improved to 3-1 on the year.

As a team, Elmira struggled to find its rhythm from the field, shooting at an 18.5% clip (12-of-65). A good chunk of Elmira's scoring came from the free-throw line, as EC connected on 15-of-22 attempts (68.2%).
Â
The Red Dragons struggled from 3-point range, making just 4-of-27 attempts (14.8%), but their work in the paint and tenacity on defense paved the way for tonight's victory. SUNY Cortland produced 32 points in the paint, which accounted for 46% of the team's scoring, and added 22 points off of the 17 turnovers it forced.
Â
SUNY Cortland's dynamic duo of Beth Bonin and Nyia Longford carried the load offensively with a combined 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting (52.9%). Bonin also dished out seven assists, as well as four rebounds, while Longford chipped in four rebounds herself.
Â
Sarah Tully grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while Shannon McGuire produced a game-high six steals.
Â
The Red Dragons built a 16-point first-half lead on Elmira, 34-18, on the back of a solid defensive effort. Elmira eyed a second-half comeback, but SUNY Cortland opened the second stanza with a 17-3 run to take a commanding 51-21 lead. The 30-point cushion was enough to see the Red Dragons through to the finish line to secure their third win of the 2019-20 campaign.
