Women’s Basketball Falls to Salisbury on Final Day of Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Elmira College women's basketball concluded action at the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic with a 70-33 setback to Salisbury University in the consolation game. The Seagulls of Salisbury improved to 7-5 with today's win, while the Soaring Eagles dropped to 2-7 on the year.
 
Elmira struggled to find its touch from the field, shooting at a 19.6% clip (10-for-51), but fared a little better from 3-point range with a 25% success rate on 3-of-12 shooting. EC went to the charity stripe 18 times as well and knocked down 10 of those attempts (55.6%).
 
Salisbury was fairly consistent from the floor this evening, shooting at 43.8% clip (28-for-64) with a 45.5% mark (10-for-22) from beyond the arc. The Seagulls did most of their damage from close range though, as they amassed 32 points in the point and outrebounded Elmira by a hefty margin, 48-33. Salisbury's bench also provided a good chunk of the offense with 37 combined points.
 
Mykenzie Malacusky '23 was Elmira's leader in points with eight. The rookie went 3-for-9 from the floor, which included a 2-for-5 mark from 3-point range. She also tied for the team lead in steals with senior Lauren Franklin '20 with three takeaways. Franklin also finished with the team lead in assists with three dimes.
 
Senior Bridget Yaw '20 chipped in six points on a perfect 6-for-6 showing from the free-throw line, while fellow classmate Emily Breheny '20 logged a team- and season-high 11 boards. Of Breheny's 11 rebounds, 10 came on the defensive glass.
 
The Elmira bench added nine points to tonight's total, as rookie Taylor Johnson '23 led a trio of bench scorers with five points. Haley Raville '23 contributed two points off of the bench to go along with six rebounds.
 
For Scranton, Emily Dilger produced a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. She padded the stat sheet with four assists, three blocks and a pair of steals.

  • Breheny tied her career high in rebounds with 11.
  • It marked the first time this season Breheny has produced double-digit rebounds.
  • Raville tied her season high rebound output (6).
  • It marked the first time Yaw has been perfect from the free-throw line in her career when attempting six or more shots.
