PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Despite splitting the singles portion of today's contest, the Elmira College men's tennis team was unable to prevail, as the Soaring Eagles came up short in non-league action to Oswego State, 6-3.

The Lakers of Oswego jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a trio of wins in doubles action. Oswego earned 8-1 and 8-0 wins at first and third doubles, respectively, while EC's second-doubles tandem of Jordan Curtis '19 and Frank Endieveri III '21 fell short by a single break of serve, 8-5.

Singles action yielded much more positive results for the Elmira men, who split the six matches evenly with Oswego.

After dropping the first set, 6-3, Stephen Gervase '20 rallied down the stretch with a 6-3 victory in the second set to force a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles. In the super-breaker, Gervase rolled through Oswego's Brian Emigholz, 10-4, to clinch a hard-fought three-set win. For Gervase, it was his first win of the year and the first of his career at the No. 1 position.

Curtis picked up his first singles victory of the season with a straight-set win at the No. 3 position. Curtis downed Oswego's Daniel Maslowski 6-3, 6-2 and secured his first win at the third spot since March 31, 2018 against Utica.

Rookie Curtis Harris '22 made his spring-season debut for the Soaring Eagles and did not disappoint. The first-year talent dropped just one game en route to a lopsided 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position.
