PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- A career performance from
Emma Crocker '21 lifted the No. 4-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team to an impressive 8-0 shutout victory over visiting Morrisville State in non-league action on Tuesday night. The Elmira women improved to 11-2-2 on the year, while the Mustangs of Morrisville dropped to 7-9-1.
For the Elmira women, they have won four consecutive games and have outscored their opponents 24-3. Additionally, Elmira is unbeaten in its last eight contests and possesses a 6-0-2 record in those games.
A total of 12 EC skaters produced points as Crocker led the offense with a hat-trick performance, the first of her three-year collegiate career. The pride of Abington, Massachusetts, scored Elmira's first, third and eighth goals of the contest. All three goals were scored at even-strength, while her game-opening goal went down as tonight's game-winner.
Although Crocker produced her first career hat trick, her prep school teammate
Morgan Mordini '22 had an equally impressive outing for the Purple and Gold. The North Attleboro, Massachusetts, native logged a career-high four points in tonight's win on one goal and a trio of assists. Her lone tally was scored shorthanded in the second period, a goal that put Elmira on top by six goals, while her assists came on EC's game-winning goal, a power-play goal and the team's final goal of the evening.
For Mordini, she is sits on a four-game point streak that has seen her amass 10 points. She has produced one additional point in each game she has played during that time.
Jess Adams '21 also enjoyed a breakout performance tonight with three points on a pair of goals and one assist. Adams assisted on a shorthanded tally and then scored a pair of second-period goals for her second multi-goal performance of the 2019-20 campaign.
Second-year standout
Eliza Beaudin '22 recorded her sixth multi-point effort of the season with one goal and one assist. Both of Beaudin's points were registered on special teams, as she scored EC's lone power-play goal and earned the primary assist on Mordini's second-period shorthanded tally. Beaudin's goal brings her season total to a team-best 13.
Rounding out Elmira's multi-point producers were
Tristen Tolan '21 and HollEy Riva '23, who both finished with two assists apiece. Coincidentally enough, the two skaters assisted on the same goals as well, tallies that put Elmira ahead 5-0 and 7-0 at the time.
Closing out Elmira's point-scorers were
Mary McCafferty '22,
Jenny Heath '22,
Jordan Holt '23,
Tiia Hertto '20,
Bella Hanson '21 and
Kiana Melvin '20, as all six finished with one point each.
McCafferty scored shorthanded, the first shorthanded goal of her career, to close out the first period. Her goal, which stands as her third of the season, put Elmira ahead 4-0 at the time.
Heath, Holt, Hertto, Hanson and Melvin were all credited with assists. Heath assisted on EC's game-winning goal, while Holt and Hertto picked up assists on Elmira's third goal of the night. Hanson's assist came on McCafferty's shorthanded goal, while Melvin assisted on Mordini's shorthanded tally.
Defensively,
Elizabeth Hanson '21 shined between the pipes once again for the Elmira women. The product of Stoughton, Massachusetts, denied the Mustangs on all 28 of their shot attempts to shutout the visitors in convincing fashion. Of her 28 saves, 11 alone were registered in the third period, as Hanson collected her fifth shutout to improve to 7-0-1 on the season.
