No. 4 Women's Ice Hockey Earns Fifth Consecutive Win With 7-0 Shutout of Chatham

PINE VALLEY, N.Y.  -- The No. 4-nationally ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey earned its fifth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles downed Chatham University, 7-0, in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.

With the win, Elmira improved to 7-1-0 in UCHC play and 12-2-2 overall. Chatham moved to 1-6-1 within conference action and 5-11-1 on the season.

Elmira's offensive barrage was headlined by sophomore Morgan Mordini '22, who netted her first-career hat trick and added an assist to finish with a team-high-tying four points. Kiana Melvin '20 matched Mordini's point total, as the blueliner registered a season-best four assists.

Emma Crocker '20 (1g-2a) and Eliza Beaudin '22 (1g-2a) each finished with three points, while Mary McCafferty '22 (2g) and Jenny Heath '22 (2a) rounded out Elmira's multi-point performers with two points apiece.

The Soaring Eagles jumped on the Cougars early, seizing a 2-0 advantage within the first three minutes of the contest. Mordini netted the opener at 1:06, coming off a pair of passes from Beaudin and Melvin. McCafferty doubled the Purple and Gold's lead 1:37 later, as the sophomore buried a rebound chance off of a point-shot from Jordan Holt '23.

Elmira kept the offense rolling in the second period, as the Purple and Gold dominated the Cougars to the tune of a 23-to-0 advantage in shots. EC turned that pressure into three goals, two of which came off of the stick of Crocker. Crocker's first goal of the period came on the power-play, while the second was a redirected effort off a shot from Melvin. Beaudin potted EC's other marker during the frame, which went down as her 14th of the season.

EC tacked on two more goals in the third period to put a final stamp on the contest. McCafferty scored the opening goal in the frame with a top-shelf snipe that beat Chatham's Katy Reed on the glove side. Mordini was responsible for the final marker of the afternoon, as the sophomore talent completed her hat trick to give the contest its final scoreline.

In his own words...
