DOWN GOES #1 | Elmira Skates to 4-3 Victory Over Geneseo on Saturday Evening

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey upset the No. 1 ranked Knights from Geneseo on the road Saturday evening, 4-3. After falling behind 1-0 in the early going of the second period, Nathan Young '25 knotted the score at the 11:57 mark before Chance Gorman '24 gave Elmira its first lead just 23 seconds later. The Knights were able to even the score at 2-2 just 26 seconds into the third period, but it was Janis Vizbelis '24 and Graham Denomme '23 who scored the third, and game-winner respectively to give EC the 4-3 victory.
 
Denomme would be credited with the game-winner, putting the game out of reach and give EC a 3-0 record on the week headed into the holiday break.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles and Knights battled on both ends of the ice through the first period, but neither team was able to find the back of the net as the game remained tied at 0-0 headed into the second. Jeffrey Zero '23 was able to keep the Knights off the board in the opening period, making seven saves in net for the Soaring Eagles.
 
In the second, it was the Knights who would strike first as Cameron Cervone put Geneseo ahead 1-0 at the 11:11 mark. The goal sparked a wild sequence of events, as Young was able to score on assists from Christian Abrams '25 and Nick Grinvalds '22 just 46 seconds later to tie the score at one.  Just 23 seconds later, it was Gorman, who scored from the left side of the net, on assists from Jared Smith '24 and Ryan Reifler '24.
 
Carrying a 2-1 lead into the final intermission, the Soaring Eagles conceded the equalizer just 36 seconds into the final frame. With the contest tied, it was Vizbelis who scored on an assist from Kennedy to increase the Elmira lead to 4-3 with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. After 6 minutes passed without a goal scored, Denomme would be credited with the game-winner on an assists from Bailey Krawczyk '24. After Denomme received a pass from Krawczyk, he had a one-on-one with Geneseo keeper Matt Petizian before slipping it by the upper-right hand side of the net to cap the scoring at 4-3.
 
Zero finished the night with 38 saves in net for his fourth consecutive win in net for Elmira.

The Soaring Eagles take a much needed break after a three-game week, returning to the ice on January 7th against New England College which begins a five game homestand.
