Soaring Eagles Drop Wednesday Afternoon Matchup to Medaille

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team dropped a hard-fought game to the visiting Mavericks from Medaille on Tuesday afternoon, 74-68. The Soaring Eagles head into the holiday break and return to the court on December 30 when they host the Panthers from Pitt-Bradford. Taylor Albrecht '22 (12 pts, 10 reb) and Desiree Roy '25 (11 pts, 12 reb) led the way for Elmira, while Alyssa Waters '22v added 19 points to the ledger.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles hit the scoreboard first and held a 4-0 lead through just the first 90 seconds of the game, but the Mavericks would rally back and take their first lead with 3:24 remaining in the opening frame (14-12), and never looked back, carrying a 22-17 lead into the second quarter.
 
The five-point lead emerged to as many as ten for the Mavericks in the opening half, taking advantage of Soaring Eagle turnovers en route to a 18-0 advantage in points from turnovers in the first half to hold a 37-27 lead through the first half. For the half, the Soaring Eagles shot 10-of-32 from the floor (31.2%) compared to 40.0% (16-of-40) for the Mavericks. Roy led the offense for Elmira headed into the break, tallying seven points and five rebounds.


The teams played an even third quarter, but Medaille was able to extend their lead to 12 despite a better shooting percentage from the Soaring Eagles. Headed into the fourth, Elmira used an uptick in rotations, forcing Maverick turnovers to cut their deficit to as little as five in the closing seconds, but Medaille was able to secure the victory, 74-68.
 
For the game, both teams shot an even clip from the field (33.8%), with the Soaring Eagles converting on 25-of-74 from the field compared to 24-of-71 for Medaille.
