CAZENOVIA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team ended its abbreviated 2021 season with a 73-51 road loss at Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon.
In a valiant effort, junior forward
Taylor Albrecht '22 and sophomore guard
Alyssa Gadoury '23 paced the Soaring Eagles (2-4) with career-high point totals. Albrecht shot 7-of-15 from the field en route to a team-leading 16 points. Three of Gadoury's makes were from 3-point range, as the Jefferson, New York, native finished with 12 points in her second consecutive start.
The Purple and Gold also received nine points from
Mykenzie Malacusky '23. Off the bench,
Autumn Hunsinger '23 added six points and tied Albrecht with a team-high eight rebounds.
The first quarter was full of back-and-forth action, and the Soaring Eagles finished the first 10 minutes with a one-point lead, 18-17. The early minutes of the second quarter were even, too, as Malacusky tied the score at 23-all with a trey at the 7:51 mark.
EC fell into a lull, however, and was held scoreless for the next 6:26. The Soaring Eagles didn't add another point to the board until Gadoury sunk a 3-pointer with 1:25 to go before halftime. By that time, Caz (4-1) built a double-digit lead and entered the break ahead by 16 at 44-28.
Although Albrecht provided a spark with 12 of her points in the second half, it was too little, too late, to make a dent into the Wildcats' advantage.
