Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Russell Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. -- First-year attacker Emily Ferguson '24 scored a game-high five goals, but it wasn't enough for the Elmira College women's lacrosse team, which fell on the road against Russell Sage College by a score of 10-7.

A native of Waterloo, New York, Ferguson matched her scoring output from EC's season-opening win over Alfred and now leads all Soaring Eagles with 10 goals through two games. Two of her five tallies were earned on free-position shots. Ferguson added to impressive performance with three draw controls and three caused turnovers, too.

Elmira (1-1) also received a goal from Catrina Dinehart '23, three points from Kendra Heath '23 (1g-2a), and one assist from Kari Jensen '23. Jensen was one of three Soaring Eagles to collect a team-high-tying four ground balls and logged a team-best five draw controls.

Alex Cox '23 and Krystyna Lilland '21 each played 30 minutes in goal. In the first half, Lilland surrendered eight goals and made seven saves. Cox, who also played in the midfield during the opening half, allowed only two goals in the second half and amassed 10 saves.

The Gators (1-0) led by as many as five in the first half, but after climbing ahead 8-3, the Soaring Eagles held Sage off the scoreboard for the next 25:19. Before halftime, Ferguson and Heath each found the back of the net, and Dinehart potted her tally at the 19:19 mark of the second half to bring EC within two, 8-6. However, the Gators allowed only one more goal for the remainder of the contest.
