EDINBORO, Pa. -- Division II Edinboro University avenged Monday afternoon's loss against the Elmira College women's lacrosse team by downing the Soaring Eagles on their home turf, 12-5, in the home-and-home series finale on Thursday.
After netting a season-high 18 goals in Monday's victory at Campus Field, the Soaring Eagles were unable to duplicate that performance in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. The Fighting Scots (1-2) limited Elmira (4-3) to 10 fewer shots and finished the contest with a 26-to-16 advantage in shots on goal. On the other hand, the Soaring Eagles continued to dominate the draw, as
Kari Jensen '23 guided the team to a 15-to-4 lead in draw controls. Jensen, who collected 19 draws in the series opener, registered a game-high 11 on Thursday.
Jensen, a second-year midfielder from Waterloo, New York, also paced the Purple and Gold with a team-best three points (2g-1a). Junior attacker
Mikayla Carfello '22 scored a pair of goals, and rookie defender
Sydney Fendick '24 found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. Junior attacker
Kendra Heath '21 contributed one assist.
Edinboro opened the contest with four answered goals, two of which came in a span of 46 seconds from Sophie DePalma and Maddie Mulcahy that gave the Fighting Scots a quick 2-0 lead. Mulcahy completed her hat trick before halftime, with her third goal extended Edinboro's lead to 8-2 at the intermission.
In the second half, Fendick and Carfello netted back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 9-4, but a 13-minute scoreless drought separated the two scores. Jensen's second tally of the day made it 10-5 in favor of the Fighting Scots with 6:10 remaining. Still, Marina Adelizzio and Angelina Anderson each added a goal inside the final five minutes to keep the game out of Elmira's reach.
