Women's Lacrosse Suffers 23-4 Loss vs. Utica in Home Finale

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team was overwhelmed by Utica College in a 23-4 loss in the Soaring Eagles' 2021 home finale at Campus Field on Saturday.

Missing a few key players from the lineup, the shorthanded Soaring Eagles (4-4) faced a tough challenge against a deep Utica (8-5) squad. The Pioneers, who opened with nine unanswered goals in the first half, finished the game with advantages in shots (39-to-12), draws (22-to-5), and ground balls (17-to-11).

Six different players earned a point for EC, led by second-year attacker Kendra Heath '23 with one goal and one assist. Mikayla Carfello '22, Maura May '24, and Kayla Tobias '23 also found the back of the net for the Soaring Eagles, while Kari Jensen '23 and Alex Cox '44 each earned one assist.

Cox, who split duties in the field and between the posts, and Maggie Gilman '23 hauled in a team-high two ground balls. Sydney Fendick '24 won a team-high three draw controls.

Playing the first 30 minutes in goal, senior netminder Krystyna Lilland '21 made a game-high seven saves.
