HOW IT HAPPENED:
After the Wolves knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to open the scoring, the Soaring Eagles used a 16-0 run to take the lead, one they would hold for 38:47 of play. As part of the early spark, the Elmira had six different players score the first six buckets of the game, led by three points apiece from
David Kruis '23 and Adams.
As play resumed following a Keuka timeout, the visitors continued to apply front court pressure, forcing 12 first half turnovers for the Soaring Eagles. Despite trouble maintaining the ball in the opening half, Elmira forced 13 Keuka turnovers while shooting a season-best 57.1% from the floor in the opening half. Leading by 21 in the closing seconds, Elmira surrendered three quick buckets as Keuka trimmed its halftime deficit to 15, with Elmira leading 47-32 at the break.
In the second half, the Soaring Eagle lead increased to as many as 24 points just past the midway point in the frame before the Wolves used a 28-11 run over the final ten minutes of the game to pull within eight. Nurse and Ravitz secured the win for Elmira with four made free throws down the stretch, giving Elmira its second conference win in a row.
Keuka led the battle in points from the bench, second chance points, and points from turnovers but Elmira found its success limiting Keuka to a 13-of-49 effort from deep, while outscoring the Wolves 58-28 in the paint.
