Second-Chance Points Hurt Elmira in 72-59 Loss to Sage on Friday Evening

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's basketball team dropped its Friday evening matchup to the Gators from Sage College, 72-59. The Soaring Eagles were outrebounded on the offensive glass, surrendering 19 offensive rebounds which resulted in a 20-10 advantage in second-chance points for the Gators.
 
Bryan Adams '25 finished the game with 20 points, while Rashaad Nurse '22 added 14 points and seven rebounds to the box score.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira quickly found itself in a 9-0 deficit through the first three and a half minutes of play before Adams was able to score his first bucket of the evening. From there, the Soaring Eagles began a 6-0 run over the next two minutes of play to pull Elmira within just one bucket.
 
After Sage increased its lead to as many as six, the Soaring Eagles pulled within a pair at the 9:10 mark on a layup from Dylan Jacob '24 before eventually tying the contest at 23-23 on a pair of made free throws from Adams at the 6:36 mark.
 
From there, a bucket from Adams gave EC its first lead of the contest with just under four and a half minutes remaining in the half before the Gators concluded the frame on an 13-0 run, carrying an 11-point advantage into the break, 36-25.
 
In the opening half, the Soaring Eagles shot just 24.2% from the floor (8-of-33) compared to 41.9% for the Gators (13-of-31). The Gators won the turnover battle 10-4 in the frame, while using a 13-6 advantage in second-chance points despite each team collecting eight offensive rebounds.
 
The second half saw the Gators pull ahead by as many as 18 points while Elmira trimmed its deficit to the lowest of the frame, nine points, with a layup from Quintel Clements '22 with just under a minute remaining. The Gators finished the game shooting 41.0% from the floor, compared to 31.7% for Elmira.

UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles hit the floor for one last time during the 2021-22 season when they host Hartwick on Senior Day tomorrow afternoon. Elmira will honor its three seniors in Kyle Kokoskie '22, Clements, and Nurse.
