CARY, N.C. – The Elmira College baseball team dropped both ends of its day-night doubleheader against the Pacers from William Peace on Thursday. After the Pacers took game one 6-2 in which Elmira received a two-run double from James Delaney '22, the Soaring Eagles were held hitless for 6.2 innings before Brett Warden reached on an infield single in the 6-0 game two loss.
Warden paced Elmira with two hits on the day, while Delaney recorded a two-RBI double.

KEY MOMENT:
- The Pacers would score the game-winning run in game one after Cole Robbins successfully laid down a suicide squeeze to push William Peace ahead 3-0 in the third inning.
- Delaney pulled Elmira within a pair of runs after doubling to left field in the 5th inning which brought home Warden and Jared Money '22. Elmira recorded four of its five hits in the 5th inning.
- In game two, Elmira retired the first two batters in the opening frame before an error and three straight singles pushed across three runs.
- Warden singled with two outs in the top of the 7th inning, avoiding the Pacer's attempt at a no-hit bid.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Pacers scored the opening run in game one after Nick Tyler recorded a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would later score on a fielders choice to put William Peace ahead 1-0. In the third, Tyler would score after a balk from Elmira starting pitcher
Justin Hyde, putting the home team ahead 2-0.
In the 4th, the Pacers plated two runs after successfully converting on a squeeze attempt, which was later followed by an RBI single from Kevin Gonzalez. Hyde was lifted after 5.0 innings of work in which he allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits, two walks, and a strikeout.
Michael Millross '24 came on in relief of Hyde in the 6th and worked a scoreless inning in which he threw just six pitches.
In game two, the Pacers used nine hits to take the 6-0 victory. Robert Gruber was tabbed with the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits while walking four. Kyle Tubbs '22 came on to make his second appearance of the season, throwing a pair of scoreless innings in which he allowed just two hits while striking out two. Steve Leopold '22 pitched the 6th inning for the Soaring Eagles, recording a scoreless frame on 12 pitches.
In the top of the seventh, Pacer starting pitcher Philip Berger worked through the first two Soaring Eagles before Warden singled on the infield to break up the no-hit bid. Berger then retired Joe Morrone '22 to secure a one-hit shutout.
STATS:
- Elmira tallied just six hits on the day, with four coming in the fifth inning of game one.
- Leopold recorded the third scoreless outing in his career in game two.
- Warden increased his batting average to .307 in the early campaign, as the freshman has recorded hits in three of his first four collegiate games.
