Soaring Eagles Felled Twice By St. John Fisher On Wednesday Afternoon

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball program dropped both ends of an Empire 8 Conference twin bill on Wednesday afternoon against St. John Fisher as the Soaring Eagles served as the home team on the scoreboard for both contests at Dugan Yard.

KEY MOMENT:
Carter Wisely '25 kept St. John Fisher off of the scoreboard through the opening three frames before the Cardinals recorded a five-run fourth inning.

Elmira would take advantage of four consecutive walks before scoring four runs in the seventh inning.

Mason Ryan '22 delivered a two-out double in the seventh that plated a pair of runs for the Soaring Eagles.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Wisely would strand a runner on base in the top of the first inning following a two-out single by the Cardinals. He followed with a pair of strikeouts in the second and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning to keep the game scoreless.

St. John Fisher opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the fourth inning as a two-run single with one out pushed the advantage to 5-0 for the Cardinals. Logan Pizzullo '25 entered out of the bullpen for Elmira and would get out of the jam and leave the bases loaded for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals would take advantage of walks issued by the Purple & Gold in the top of the fifth inning as St. John Fisher tallied 10 runs after working nine walks while adding a single and a two-run home run in the frame.

Elmira would be unable to push across a run in the bottom of the frame to keep the game alive as St. John Fisher would tally the 15-0 run-rule victory to open the twin bill.

Game two would see the Cardinals plate a run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 advantage before adding two more runs to make it 3-0 in the fourth inning. The Purple & Gold worked to keep the contest within reach until St. John Fisher scored three runs in the sixth inning and seven runs in the seventh to extend the lead to 13-0.

The Soaring Eagles opened the bottom of the seventh inning with four consecutive walks as Bryan Jimenez '25 worked a free pass with the bases loaded to get Elmira onto the scoreboard. Luke Frontale '22 later scored from third off a wild pitch, while Ryan closed the scoring with a double that plated a pair of runs to make it 13-4.

St. John Fisher closed the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to secure the doubleheader sweep against the Soaring Eagles.
 

STATS:
Matteo Salvati '25, Jacob Parker '24, and Jared Money '22 each tallied a hit in game one for the Soaring Eagles.

David Kruis '23, Jack Finnerty '23, and Angus Adams '22 each worked a scoreless inning of relief out of the bullpen in game two for the Purple & Gold.

Ryan, Frontale, Joe Morrone '22, and James Delaney '22 all notched a hit in game two for Elmira.

The Soaring Eagles will head to Utica on Saturday for a pair of Empire 8 Conference games against the Pioneers beginning at 1:00 p.m. Elmira will host the Pioneers on Sunday at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex in Cortland beginning at 1:00 p.m.
