PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College field hockey program limited one of the higher scoring offenses this season in the Empire 8 Conference to three goals on Wednesday in a league matchup at the Murray Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would get an early penalty corner opportunity less than two minutes into action but would be unable to capitalize. The Highlanders would go nearly seven minutes into the opening frame before registering their first shot of the contest.
Jenna Ellis '24 recorded the first shot on goal for EC at the 11:51 mark as her opportunity would be denied by Houghton.
Less than a minute into the second quarter, Ellis would find herself with another scoring opportunity for the Purple & Gold as the Highlanders turned away the shot to keep the game scoreless. Houghton would break the scoreless tie at the 21:01 mark of the contest as Peyton Bentley found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Houghton added another goal just over three minutes later in the frame to make it 2-0 at the 24:29 mark.
Elmira would be awarded three penalty corners within the opening two minutes of the third quarter but would be unable to find the back of the net against the Highlanders.

Kylie Rosen '23 would each have scoring opportunities turned away by Houghton during the opening two minutes.
Houghton extended its lead to 3-0 early in the fourth quarter as a shot would be tipped past Elmira goalkeeper
MeganRae Burke '24 at the 47:12 mark. The early tally by the Highlanders would be the lone goal of the quarter as Houghton went on to secure the 3-0 shutout.
Burke finished with nine saves in goal for the Soaring Eagles, while Ellis paced the Purple & Gold with a pair of shots on goal in the contest. Houghton held a 22-8 advantage in shots to go along with a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. The Soaring Eagles took eight penalty corners in the contest compared to six for the Highlanders.
