Bill Kelly Earns First Win as Elmira Head Women's Soccer Coach

Piper Andrews '26 scores first collegiate goal in 1-0 shut out over Lancaster Bible

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 home victory over the visiting Chargers of Lancaster Bible College, giving Bill Kelly his first win as head coach of the Soaring Eagles. Freshman Piper Andrews '26 scored her first collegiate goal to put EC ahead in the 25th minute of the first half.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 1, Lancaster Bible 1
LOCATION: Elmira, NY
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (1-1-0, 0-0 E8), Lancaster Bible (1-1-0, 0-0 UE)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Chargers came out strong in the first 24 minutes of play, forcing sophomore goalkeeper Nevaeh Winston '25 into four saves, winning three corner kicks, and ripping a shot off the left post and crossbar.

Then in the 25th minute, sophomore Rachel Bortnick '25 picked up a turnover near midfield, took two dribbles, and sent a beautiful through ball over a Charger defender's head Andrews. Andrews, who had just subbed in four minutes prior, would gather it just outside the penalty area and attack down the left side of the box towards the keeper before calmly placing it in the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

The Soaring Eagles used the momentum and would hold most of the possession throughout the remainder of the half. After the break, the Chargers would pick up the pace as they sought out an equalizer, outshooting Elmira 15 to 5. Only five of Lancaster Bible's 15 shots came on goal as EC seniors Lauren Foster '23 and Kelly Keegan '23 were stout on the back line. Freshman Faith Ingber '26, Emily Andersen '26 and sophomore Kylie Lumley '25 were equally as impressive on the defensive side of the ball for Elmira. Winston finished with 10 saves, while Andrews and junior Sarah Wagner '24 had four and three shots on goal, respectively.
