HOW IT HAPPENED:
Jourdan Plaisted '21 would give Elmira a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one with a run-scoring groundout that allowed Salvati to score. Capital would later respond with a five-run bottom of the second inning as the big blow would be a bases-clearing double that increased Comets' lead to 4-1.
Capital plated three runs in the fourth inning followed by one more in the fifth inning to push its advantage to 9-1 before the Soaring Eagles would put together a rally in the sixth. A throwing error by the Comets on a ball hit to third by
Kade Cochran '26 allowed
Mason Ryan '22 and
Colin McLaughlin '22 to score and trimmed the deficit to 9-3. Salvati followed with an RBI groundout before a triple from Warden allowed Cochran to score and cut the Comets' lead to 9-5.
Three more runs would cross the plate for Capital in the bottom of the seventh inning to increase the lead to 12-5. The Soaring Eagles would score a run in the top of the ninth inning as Warden touched home following a wild pitch by the Comets to make it 12-6.
Marco Macri '26 finished the contest 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Soaring Eagles, while
Ryan Trenholm '25 had a pinch-hit double for Elmira.
Elmira would manufacture a run in the top of the second inning of game two as Salvati opened the frame with a single before stealing second and moving over to third on a groundout. A sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of McLaughlin allowed Salvati to score easily to make it 1-0.
On the mound for Elmira,
Jarek Podest '26 would be locked in as he yielded just one hit through four innings of work. Podest recorded six strikeouts and issued a pair of walks to go along with five flyouts and one groundout. Out of the bullpen,
Kyle Tubbs '22 would pick up where Podest left off for the Soaring Eagles as he surrendered just one hit through two innings of work with two strikeouts.
Capital would change the momentum in the bottom of the eighth inning against Elmira reliever
David Kruis '23 after the Soaring Eagles stranded a pair of runners on base in the top of the frame. A walk by Kruis with one out followed by a sacrifice bunt allowed the Comets to get the tying run into scoring position. A two-out double allowed the tying run to score for Capital before a single plated the eventual game-winning run.
Salvati delivered a two-out single in the ninth inning for his third hit of the contest for the Soaring Eagles, but Elmira would be unable to push across another run as Capital secured the 2-1 victory.
