HOW IT HAPPENED:
Utica jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning against Elmira starter Kyle Tubbs '22 before Elmira answered with three runs in the top of the second inning. An RBI groundout off the bat of Bryan Jimenez '25 would knot the score 1-1, while an error by the Pioneers allowed a pair of EC runners to score and give the Purple & Gold a two-run cushion.

The lead for Elmira would be short-lived as the Pioneers answered back with a four-run bottom of the second inning to take a 5-3 advantage over the Soaring Eagles. EC clawed back to trim the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the third inning as Kaden Bolt '26 scored off a sacrifice fly from Matteo Salvati '25. The duo of Bolt and Salvati would produce another run in the fourth inning as a throwing error allowed Bolt to touch home and knot the score 5-5.

Utica plated a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-5 advantage and wouldn't look back as the Pioneers scored nine runs over the final three innings for an eventual run-rule victory over the Soaring Eagles. Bolt, Jourdan Plaisted '21, and Nick Lees '25 each recorded a hit for Elmira.

Ray Mineo '23 was handed the loss for Elmira despite allowing just one run off one hit through 2.1 innings of work. Tubbs was given the no-decision for EC after allowing five runs off six hits through 1.2 innings of work. Elmira stranded seven runners on base and was unable to capitalize on four errors committed by the Pioneers in the contest.
