HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – A pair of early unearned runs from the Lycoming College Warriors would be the difference on Tuesday afternoon as the Elmira College baseball program dropped a 4-0 decision in a non-conference matchup against the Warriors at the Holding Point.
GAME INFORMATION:
SCORE: Elmira 0, Lycoming 4
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-20), Lycoming (9-20)
LOCATION: Horseheads, New York | Holding Point Recreation Complex
W|L|S: S. Fuhr (W, 1-1) | C. Wisely (L, 1-1) | J. Inman (1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Warriors would take advantage of a leadoff walk and a two-out error by the Soaring Eagles in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 advantage before adding a triple later in the frame that would push the lead to 2-0. Elmira starter
Carter Wisely '25 would get out of the frame with a strikeout to keep the Soaring Eagles within striking distance.
Elmira loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the first inning following a pair of hit-by-pitches and a single from
Bryan Jimenez '25. The Warriors would work out of the jam with a groundout to leave the bases loaded for the Soaring Eagles. EC would put two more runners on base in the bottom of the second inning after back-to-back walks with two outs in the inning. Lycoming escaped damage again with another groundout to strand both runners on base.
A leadoff walk by Lycoming in the sixth inning would eventually come around to score after Braden Campbell stole both second and third for the Warriors before scoring on a balk later in the frame to make it 3-0. Elmira reliever
Logan Pizzullo '25 would go on to strike out three batters in the frame despite allowing the one run to score for Lycoming.
The Warriors added another insurance run in the top of the seventh inning with a two-out double into shallow left field that brought home a runner to make it 4-0 in favor of Lycoming. Elmira would look to rally over the final three innings of the contest but would be unable to push across a run despite having at least one base runner in each frame.
Wisely was handed the loss for Elmira despite both runs that he allowed being unearned through three innings of work. He yielded only one hit to go along with five strikeouts for the Soaring Eagles. Pizzullo recorded seven strikeouts without allowing a hit through three innings of relief, while
Kyle Tubbs '22 closed the contest over the final two innings and yielded one hit.
Jared Money '22 paced Elmira with a pair of hits in the contest, while five other Soaring Eagles notched a hit against the Warriors.
