HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles and starter Jarek Podest '26 worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning after Podest issued a pair of two-out walks before recording a strikeout to leave all three Wells runners on base.

Elmira answered with some offense of its own in the bottom of the first inning as Brett Warden '25 and Matteo Salvati '25 each singled to put a pair of runners on base for Chris Jones '25. Jones came through for the Purple & Gold with a triple into center field that allowed both Warden and Salvati to score and make it 2-0.

Wells worked to trim the deficit in the top of the third inning as a walk with the bases loaded pushed across a run to make it 2-1. Following a call to the bullpen by the Soaring Eagles, Matthew Schultz '26 would get a flyout to strand three runners on base. The Express plated another run in the fourth inning to knot the score 2-2 following a two-out double against Schultz.

The score would remain deadlocked until Elmira rallied for a pair of runs against the Express in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bryan Jimenez '25 opened the frame with a walk and would later advance to third base following a double off the bat of Jourdan Plaisted '21. Both runners would score after a single from Jared Money '22 and a throwing error by the shortstop which put the Purple & Gold up 4-2.

Wells plated a run against the Soaring Eagles and Elmira reliever Jack Finnerty '23 in the top of the seventh inning to trim the deficit to 4-3 before Kyle Tubbs '22 would take over on the mound and record the final out to preserve the one-run advantage. David Kruis '23 would toss the final two frames out of the bullpen to notch his second save of the season for the Soaring Eagles after working a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning.

Warden and Money both finished with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate for Elmira, while four other Soaring Eagles notched a hit in the contest. Podest took the no-decision for EC after allowing one run through 2.2 innings of work, while Finnerty recorded his first win of the season for the Purple & Gold.

UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles hit the road following an off-weekend as Elmira travels to Lycoming College for a single 9-inning contest against the Warriors in a non-conference tilt set for 3:30 P.M.
