HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – Despite rallying for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Elmira College baseball program dropped a 17-7 decision against Sage on Monday morning in an Empire 8 Conference matchup at the Holding Point Recreation Park to complete a three-game series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sage opened the contest with four runs in the top of the first inning against the Soaring Eagles and starting pitcher
Ray Mineo '22. The Soaring Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning as
Marco Macri '26 singled back up the middle to allow
Brett Warden '25 to score from second and make it 4-1.
The Gators would add a pair of runs in the second inning and one more in the third, while the Soaring Eagles plated a run in both the second and third innings.
Ryan Trenholm '25 reached on a fielding error by the Gators in the second inning which allowed
Jarod Signorelli '23 to score and make it 6-2. A single from
Connor Stone '26 in the third inning would allow
Matteo Salvati '25 to come around and score to trim the deficit to 7-3.
An 8-run top of the fourth inning for Sage would open things up on the scoreboard as the Gators notched eight hits in the frame to extend their lead to 15-3. Sage also tallied a pair of runs with a home run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 17-3.
With the run-rule in effect in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Soaring Eagles would string together some offense as
Sean Deaner '26 opened the frame with a pinch-hit single to right field. Following a pair of strikeouts, Elmira would rally with two outs as
Brady Buttice '26 cleared the bases for the Purple & Gold with a three-run double into left field that trimmed the deficit to 17-6.
Bryan Jimenez '25 continued the scoring for Elmira with a single into left field that allowed Buttice to score and make it 17-7. The Soaring Eagles would be unable to pull within single digits as Sage reliever Jaylen Cuevas recorded the final out of the frame to secure the victory.
Mineo was handed the loss for the Soaring Eagles after yielding six runs (four earned) off six hits through 1.2 innings of work.
Nicholas Miller '26 worked 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Elmira, while
Brennan Goin '26 tossed a clean frame with a pair of strikeouts.

The Purple & Gold travel to Geneva on Wednesday for a mid-week meeting against Hobart College as the two programs will square-off for the first time with first-pitch slated for 6:00 P.M. at McDonough Park.
