HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Elmira Men's Volleyball team split its Saturday afternoon tri-match on the campus of Juniata College, falling to the #3 nationally-ranked Eagles 3-1 before defeating the Rangers from Drew University, 3-0. In the win, the Soaring Eagles would receive 32 combined kills from Oscar Munoz Trinidad '23, Edwin Sosa '25, and Jordan Peiser '24, while Ayden Herried '26 chipped in 20 set assists in the win.
Against the Eagles, Alberto Maurcio '25 paced Elmira with 20 kills, while Sosa and Munoz Trinidad each recorded nine a piece. The Soaring Eagles would take the first set over the nationally-ranked Eagles 25-23, capping off the set with a kill from Peiser. From there, the Eagles would win the following three sets 25-20, 27-25, and 25-13.
Max Cohen '25 would finish with 40 set assists, while as a team the Soaring Eagles would hit just .197%.
Against the Rangers, the Soaring Eagles would see an uptick in its hitting percentage, powering for a .316% mark with 46 kills and just 15 attacking errors. The Purple & Gold would win all three sets, 25-19, 25-15, and 25-22. Herried would finish with 20 set assists, while Neiram Galan-Canales '23 chipped in 17 of his own. Joe Powless '23 would record a .438 hitting percentage with seven kills, while Munoz Trinidad finished with a .571 hitting percentage.
