Soaring Eagles Wrap up Spring Break Trip With Doubleheader at #20 Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Elmira College Softball team was back in action on Sunday afternoon against the #20 nationally-ranked Falcons from Pfeiffer University. After dropping its first game of the afternoon 17-0, the Soaring Eagles would battle through the first three and a half innings of play in game two, before a six-run fourth inning for the Falcons would ultimately be the difference. 

On the afternoon, Brianna Ramstine '25 would finish 4-for-6 from the plate, which increased her early season average to .500. Additionally, Kaitlyn Belmont '24 would see a trio of hits in game two, while Hannah Colwill '27 drove in a pair of runs on a double in the sixth.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In game one, the Soaring Eagles would find itself in a 10-0 deficit after the first inning, recording ten hits which included just one extra base hit, while taking advantage of a pair of Elmira errors. Sobel would be lifted after just 0.1 innings inside the circle, before Wheat came on in relief. 
  • Wheat would go the next 1.2 innings, where she would finish allowing five runs on six hits, while walking four and striking out two as the Falcons used a five-run second inning to increase its lead. 
  • Kendall McAnelly '27 would toss the final two innings for EC, allowing a pair of runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out one. 
  • Offensively, the Soaring Eagles would be held to just three hits, as Asia Curkendall '25, Ramstine, and Katie Distefano '24 each tallied a hit, including a double for Ramstine. 
  • In game two, the Soaring Eagles would see Jocelyn Jean '27 lead off the game with a single to right field. After stealing second, Ramstine would single her home following a throwing error on the play from the Falcons. 
  • After Curkendall reached base safely on a fielding error which allowed for Ramstine to score, the Falcons would tie the game following a two-run home run in the bottom of the second against Wheat. 
  • The contest would remain tied until the fourth, when the Falcons used five hits to push across six runs, which would ultimately be the difference in the contest. 
  • In game two, Ramstine and Belmont would finish with three hits a piece, while Madison Brown-Bloom '23, Brooke Eastman '27, Colwill, Distefano, and Jean finished with one hit a piece.

UP NEXT: 
The Soaring Eagles return to the field on Tuesday, March 19 when hosting Wells in its home-opener at the Holding Point Recreation Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM in game one against the Express.
