HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira struck first in the opening matchup, scoring twice in the bottom of the third. Asia Curkendall '25 opened the inning with a walk before stealing second and coming around to score on a Brianna Ramstine '25 triple. Ramstine scored on a Katie Distefano '24 sacrifice fly, giving the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 lead.
  • The Wolves cut the deficit in half the following inning on an RBI single before scoring three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.
  • The visitors added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, scoring on a single and an Elmira error. This brought their lead to 6-2, and after a scoreless bottom of the sixth for the Soaring Eagles, Elmira had three more outs to erase a four-run deficit.
  • Riley Storrs '27 started things off with a walk before Curkendall followed with a two-strike base hit. Hannah Colwill '27 reached on a Keuka error to load the bases with nobody out, and Ramstine followed by driving in Elmira's first run of the inning on an RBI single. However, Storrs was thrown out at third, and after Distefano reached on a fielder's choice, Elmira had runners on the corners down to its last out. Kaitlyn Belmont '24 kept the pressure on Keuka with another RBI single, cutting the deficit to two runs. With Madison Brown-Bloom '23 reaching safely on a muffed throw by the first baseman, EC had the game-winning run on base. Jocelyn Jean '27 ended the game for the Soaring Eagles, lacing a triple into the outfield and driving in three runs to complete the comeback and seal the victory for the Purple & Gold.
  • The Soaring Eagles wasted no time getting on the board in game two, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Distefano drove in the first run on an RBI single, bringing home Ramstine from second base. Belmont followed up with an RBI triple, driving in Distefano before scoring on a Jean sacrifice fly. Olivia Roccabruna '27 completed the four-run inning with an RBI base hit, scoring Curkendall.
  • EC added one more run the following inning, with Ramstine driving home Bella DeAmelia '24, who reached on a double.
  • After Keuka left the bases loaded in the top of the third, the Soaring Eagles continued their offensive momentum in the bottom half of the inning. Belmont opened the proceedings with a single and stolen base before Jean singled to bring her around to score. Jean would score on a Hannah Flagg '24 sacrifice fly, bringing Elmira's lead to seven. DeAmelia capped the inning with her second double of the contest, driving in a run to make it 8-0.
  • The Wolves got their first run of the game in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to left field, cutting Elmira's lead to seven.
  • The Purple & Gold got those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Jean drove in a pair with a two-base hit. After Brooke Eastman '27 reached on a hit-by-pitch and Flagg followed with a walk, DeAmelia drove in her second of the game with a bases-loaded walk. Colwill followed with another walk, bringing home Eastman to make it 12-1 after four.
  • The Soaring Eagles could not keep the Wolves offense quiet in the following inning as they scored five runs to make it a 12-6 ballgame and forced the contest into the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Belmont drew a four-pitch walk to bring the game-winning run to the plate. Jean followed with a two-strike RBI double, giving her her fifth RBI of the matchup. Curkendall ensured the game ended in five innings, lacing a single into the outfield and driving in Jean, giving EC the 14-6 victory.
  • Jean finished the day 4-6 at the plate with three runs and eight RBI across the two games.
  • Maryann Sobel '25 pitched a complete game for the Soaring Eagles in the second game, giving up three earned runs in five innings while striking out three.
