HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira's first sign of trouble came in the top of the fourth when three straight Broncos reached base, loading the bases with no outs. Asia Curkendall '25 and Katie Distefano '24 got forceouts at home to keep SUNY Delhi off the scoreboard before the Soaring Eagles got a ground ball back to the pitcher to escape the inning unscathed.
  • Neither team created much offense after that, and the game was still scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth. With one out in the inning, Hannah Colwill '27 reached base with a single and stole second base. After Brianna Ramstine '25 moved her to third with a fly out, Distefano broke the deadlock, driving in Colwill with a base hit and giving Elmira a late 1-0 lead.
  • With one out in the top of the seventh, the Broncos got a base hit before an Elmira error allowed the runner to reach third base. The following batter laid down a bunt back to Sobel, who charged in and tossed the ball back to home plate to throw the runner out. After another single and a walk loaded the bases, the Soaring Eagles ended the game with a popup to second base.
  • The Purple & Gold scored first in the second contest, plating one run in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Olivia Roccabruna '27, driving in Jocelyn Jean '27.
  • Neither team scored in the following two innings, and after McAnelly tossed a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, Elmira's bats came to life, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning. Roccabruna led off the frame with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning and no runners on base, Ramstine reached on a base hit. Distefano followed with a double that put the two runners on second and third, and the Soaring Eagles scored on a Broncos wild pitch for the second time in the inning.
  • McAnelly held a perfect game through the top of the sixth inning, nearly sitting the Broncos down in order again before an error ended the run.
  • Despite loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Elmira could not bring any runs home, and the game went to the top of the seventh with the Purple & Gold up 3-0.
  • A first-pitch single to start the inning ended McAnelly's no-hit bid, but after retiring the following three batters, the first-year player earned her first collegiate win in a one-hit shutout.
  • Curkendall led the team with three hits across the two games while swiping a bag for the Soaring Eagles.
