HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In game one, the Golden Flyers would score a pair of runs against Elmira starting pitcher Maryann Sobel '25 after working four walks and a single in the frame. With the bases loaded, Sobel was able to work out of a one-out jam to keep the game at 2-0.
- From there, Sobel would dial in, allowing just four hits over the final six innings of play, including a stretch of five straight scoreless innings from the second to the sixth.
- Nazareth maintained its 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Soaring Eagles added three runs to take its first lead of the ballgame. After Brown-Bloom tripled with one out, DeAmelia would be hit by a pitch to increase her all-time program setting record to 19, before stealing second base to put a pair into scoring position. From there, Hannah Colwill '27 would single home the pair of runners on a base hit to right field, before a fielding error allowed the ball to roll to the wall, as Colwill circled the bases to put EC ahead 3-2.
- After Sobel worked a quiet top of the sixth, Distefano led off the bottom half with a walk and stole second base, before a groundout would move her to third. From there, Jocelyn Jean '27 brought home Elmira's final run of the contest, important insurance, on a single which squeaked past the pitcher.
- In the seventh, the Golden Flyers would receive a leadoff double, before another brought home Nazareth's third run. On the play, the runner attempted to stretch the double into a triple, before being gunned down by Distefano, who received the cutoff from Brown-Bloom. The final batter of the contest would be retired via the strikeout.
- Sobel finished with a final line of 7.0 innings, where she allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits, while walking four and striking out three.
- In game two, the Soaring Eagles would concede a first inning run on a sacrifice fly, before powering for eight of its own in the bottom half, while batting around. In the frame, Elmira saw hits from Distefano, Jean, Belmont, Flagg, Natalie Tom '25, and Asia Curkendall, while using a pair of Golden Flyer errors to its advantage.
- From there, the Golden Flyers would answer back with six of its own in the top of the second inning, which eventually lifted Elmira starting pitcher Kendall McAnelly '27 from the contest. She finished with a final line of 1.2 innings, where she allowed six runs (all earned) on three hits, while walking four.
- Shelby Dawe '27 would come on in relief, as she fired 2.1 innings of three-run ball, on four Nazareth hits.
- In the bottom of the third, Elmira would extend its lead to 9-7 after Brianna Ramstine '25 singled home Curkendall, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
- Nazareth answered back with a pair in the top of the fourth to tie the contest, on a two-RBI single from Avery Spencer.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Elmira would score the eventual game-winning run as Belmont singled home Ramstine, who singled earlier in the inning. The Soaring Eagles would also add a pair of critical insurance runs, as Brown-Bloom and Tom each recorded RBI knocks.
- Cadey Wheat '27 would put together a phenomenal effort over the final three innings, as she allowed just two hits while striking out four to pick up her third win of the season.
