ALFRED, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles softball team traveled to Alfred on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader against the Saxons. Elmira struggled to gain any offensive momentum and was shutout in both games, with final scores of 8-0 and 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Soaring Eagles started the first game by getting a runner on base with one out in the first inning when Asia Curkendall '25 was hit by a pitch. However, after two strikeouts left her stranded, Elmira entered the bottom of the first without a run.
- Alfred scored the game's first run on an RBI double, taking the 1-0 lead early in the ballgame.
- Madison Brown-Bloom '23 recorded a one-out single in the top of the second inning for Elmira's first hit of the contest. The Soaring Eagles could not bring her home, and the inning ended with her still at first base.
- The Saxons began the bottom of the second with a triple and followed it up with an RBI single to double their lead.
- Both teams went scoreless in the third inning, and after the Soaring Eagles went down in order, Alfred scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of one-run singles, a two-run double, and an RBI walk.
- With Elmira trailing 7-0 entering the top of the fifth, the Soaring Eagles could not find their footing offensively, striking out twice in another 1-2-3 inning for the Purple & Gold.
- The Saxons scored their eighth run to walk it off in the bottom of the fifth, driving in a run on an RBI double to claim the 8-0 victory.
- In game two, The Soaring Eagles got a runner on base in the top of the first inning when Katie Distefano '24 hit a two-out single back up the middle, but she was left on base after a strikeout ended the frame.
- Alfred scored first in the bottom of the inning, plating three runs on three RBI singles.
- After three straight Elmira outs in the top of the second, Alfred scored two more on an error and sacrifice fly, taking a 5-0 lead after two.
- Distefano got another hit with one out in the top of the fourth, but the Soaring Eagles could not capitalize and struck out twice to end the inning.
- Elmira went hitless for the remainder of the contest, which ended in a 5-0 defeat to Alfred.
- Cadey Wheat '27, Kendall McAnelly '27, Shelby Dawe '27, and Maddy Ward '27 combined to throw five innings in relief for the Soaring Eagles in the second game, allowing one earned run on five hits.
