GENESEO, N.Y. – Despite a strong effort from the bench, the Elmira College women's basketball team could not overcome an early deficit, falling 67-37 to SUNY Geneseo on Friday evening in Empire 8 action at Carl Schrader Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles struggled to find their rhythm early, as Geneseo surged to a 24-11 lead in the first quarter. Taylor Jung '25 knocked down a pair of three-pointers to pace Elmira's offense, while Kelsey Stewart '26 added another from beyond the arc.
Elmira's offense stalled in the second quarter, with the team managing just seven points. Despite Nevaeh Winston '25 converting both her free throws and Emma Ryan '28 grabbing key rebounds, Geneseo extended its lead to 43-18 by halftime.
Victoria Rought '25 provided a spark off the bench in the third quarter, going 3-for-4 from the field. However, Geneseo's consistent offensive pressure kept the game out of reach.
In the fourth quarter, Elmira showed resilience, posting 15 points. Mallory Welty '26 and Mia Welty '26 contributed from the perimeter, and Natalie Musolino '26 hit a three-pointer. Despite the late effort, the Soaring Eagles could not bridge the gap, falling 67-37.
Jung led Elmira with six points, while Rought and Dixon chipped in with six and five points, respectively. Elmira's bench contributed 24 points, highlighting the team's depth.
