WHAT'S AT STAKE:
The Soaring Eagles are sending a program record eight wrestlers to nationals this year, as the previous record was six wrestlers during the 2022-23 season. Elmira will look to build on its team standing along with the potential to secure multiple All-Americans at nationals for the first time. EC placed 18th in 2021-22, 15th in 2022-23, and 17th a year ago.

Returning All-Americans Skylah Chakouian '25 and Zoey Lints '27 highlight the eight wrestlers that will compete for the Soaring Eagles on Friday. Chakouian qualified for her fourth trip to nationals for the Soaring Eagles after placing second at 160 pounds, while Lints will make her second consecutive appearance at nationals after winning the 145-pound title.

Returning to nationals for the Soaring Eagles are Tayana Labady '25, Hazel Dahlquist '25, Abby Duke '26, and Gabby Bradigan '26. This will be the third trip to nationals for Labady, while Dahlquist, Duke, and Bradigan will each be making their second trip to nationals. First-time qualifiers for Elmira include Megan Edwards '27 and Ragan Retell '28.

In her opening match at 110 pounds, Duke will be matched up against Daisey Hawkins from York College (PA). Hawkins finished fourth at the Region II Tournament for the Spartans and will be making her debut at nationals. This will be the first matchup between Duke and Hawkins as Duke enters nationals with a 12-4 overall record for the Purple & Gold with one pin and three tech fall victories. Duke defeated Izabella Frezzo from New Jersey City University to secure first place at the Region I Tournament.

Making her nationals debut at 124 pounds for the Soaring Eagles, Edwards will be matched up against nationally-ranked Cali Leng from Iowa. Leng finished first at the Region VII Tournament for the Hawkeyes, as she went 4-0 with a pair of tech fall victories. Edwards battled through the consolation bracket at the Region I Tournament and recorded four consecutive wins to advance to the third-place match. Edwards is 13-7 overall on the season for Elmira, as she has recorded nine pins and one tech fall victory.

Making her nationals debut at 131 pounds for the Purple & Gold, Retell will be matched up against Alex Szkotnicki from McKendree. Szkotnicki finished first at the Region VI Tournament for the Bearcats, as she went 3-0 with three pins, including a win against teammate Viktorya Torres in the finals. Retell punched her ticket to nationals after battling to the title match at the Region I Tournament for Elmira with a 3-1 record. Retell is 15-12 in the season with five pins and eight tech fall victories for the Soaring Eagles.

In her opening match for the Purple & Gold at 138 pounds, Bradigan will face Katerina Lange from Grand Valley State University. Lange went 4-0 to secure the Region V Tournament title for the Lakers, recording three tech fall wins. Bradigan returns to nationals for the first time since 2022-23, as she won the Region I Tournament title following a pin against Tanya Teneva from Western New England. Bradigan is 16-14 overall on the season for Elmira, with eight pins and three tech fall victories.

Following her second consecutive regional championship for the Soaring Eagles, Lints looks to make it back-to-back All-American performances at nationals while competing at 145 pounds. Lints enters nationals on a 19-match winning streak for Elmira, as she is 28-3 overall on the season with 22 pins and five tech fall victories.

The first wrestler for the Soaring Eagles to make her fourth appearance at nationals, Chakouian will look to secure her second All-America nod after placing eighth as a freshman in 2021-22. Chakouian will face Alexa Valdez from Quincy University in her opening match at 160 pounds. Valdez placed third at the Region VI Tournament for the Hawks with a 3-1 record. Chakouian is 24-9 overall on the season for Elmira and recorded her 100th career victory at the Region I Tournament for the Soaring Eagles.

Making her second appearance at nationals for Elmira, Dahlquist will compete at 180 pounds and will face Allison Brandt from York College (PA) in her opening match. Brandt finished fourth at the Region II Tournament for the Spartans and will be making her first nationals appearance.
