CORTLAND, N.Y. – Despite dropping the opening game of a doubleheader on Friday, the Elmira College Baseball team notched an 11-10 victory in 11 innings to record a split against the SUNY Poly Wildcats at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- SUNY Poly would open the scoring right out of the gates in the bottom of the first inning with six runs. The Wildcats would also add a run in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead against Elmira.
- The Wildcats added a run in the fourth and fifth innings before tallying seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- Elmira recorded three hits in the opening game, as Brady Buttice, Xander Canfield, and Kaden Bolt each reached base. Buttice recorded a double, while Matteo Salvati worked a walk for the Soaring Eagles.
- Jack Finnerty was handed with the loss for Elmira, while Nicholas Miller worked 4.2 innings out of the bullpen. Tyler Scott also tossed one inning out of the bullpen to close the contest.
- Nick Lees would give EC a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two with a single to center field.
- Connor Stone hit his fifth home run of the season in the second inning to put Elmira up 2-0. The home run marked Stone's 10th of his career and puts him second all-time in program history behind Dylan Bellinger's 13 from 2015-17.
- Elmira gained a 6-1 advantage in the fifth inning as Brett Warden closed the scoring with a double into right field to plate Bolt.
- The Wildcats rallied to trim the deficit to 6-4 in the fifth inning, before Elmira added a pair of runs in the sixth.
- Brenden McGar extended Elmira's lead to 10-4 in the top of the eighth inning with a single to center field as Lees scored for the Soaring Eagles.
- SUNY Poly would score a run in the eighth inning and five runs in the bottom of the ninth to knot the score 10-10 and force extra innings.
- It would be Lees who would play hero for the Soaring Eagles in the 11th inning, as his single to left field allowed Buttice to score and make it 11-10. Lees matched the single-game program record with his five hits in the contest.
- Brennan Goin closed the game in the bottom of the frame to secure the win for the Soaring Eagles to improve to 1-1 on the season.

The Soaring Eagles host Alfred University on Monday for a single nine-inning contest at the Holding Point at 3:00 p.m. The series will then shift to Alfred for a doubleheader on Wednesday at noon.
