HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball team rallied from a pair of early deficits on Monday to secure an 18-8 victory in eight innings against the Alfred University Saxons at the Holding Point in Empire 8 Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Alfred took a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning following a three-run home run to left field against Elmira starter Logan Pizzullo.
- Elmira answered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-3 advantage. Bryan Jimenez put the Soaring Eagles on the scoreboard with a double to score Brady Buttice.
- Brenden McGar highlighted the frame with a single through the right side as two runs scored to knot the game 3-3.
- The Saxons wouldn't go away as they rallied for five runs in the top of the third inning to take an 8-6 lead against the Soaring Eagles.
- EC rallied in the bottom of the frame for three runs as Brett Warden would be hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the tying run to make it 8-8. Xander Canfield gave the Soaring Eagles a 9-8 advantage with a single to center field to score Jimenez.
- Elmira hit four home runs between the fourth and seventh innings, as Buttice was responsible for two. Nick Lees and Gabe Fellows also left the yard for the Soaring Eagles.
- The run-rule victory would be secured in the bottom of the eighth inning as Warden reached first with the bases loaded on a dropped third strike that would elude the catcher.
- Fellows and Jimenez each recorded four hits in the contest, while Canfield and Buttice both notched three hits. Fellows and Buttice paced the Soaring Eagles with a combined eight runs scored.
- Pizzullo was handed a no-decision for Elmira after exiting the game through three innings of work on the mound. Pizzullo allowed eight runs off seven hits to go along with three strikeouts and two walks.
- Michael Polsinelli earned his first collegiate win for the Soaring Eagles after shutting down Alfred through five innings of work out of the bullpen. Polsinelli allowed just one hit to go along with three strikeouts and one walk.
