HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles earned a split against the Alfred University Saxons on Wednesday in Empire 8 Conference action. Elmira notched a 10-1 victory in game one against the Saxons, before falling short in game two against Alfred, 13-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A single from Nick Lees in the top of the first inning extended Elmira's lead to 2-0 against the Saxons.
- Alfred answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning against Elmira starter Jack Finnerty to trim the deficit to 2-1.
- The 2-1 score would hold until Elmira added a run in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning to extend the advantage to 6-1.
- Elmira scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning on an error by the Saxons and a third run following a wild pitch.
- In the seventh inning, Bobby Cavalier doubled home a pair of runs for Elmira to make it 8-1. Connor Stone followed with a double to score Cavalier and make it 9-1, while Bryan Jimenez delivered a single to score Stone and cap the scoring at 10-1.
- Finnerty recorded his second win of the season after allowing just one run off two hits through five innings of work. Michael Polsinelli tossed the final two frames to secure the win as he retired all six batters that he faced.
- Game two started in favor of the Soaring Eagles, with four runs scoring in the top of the second inning. Gabe Fellows highlighted the scoring in the frame with a two-run single through the right side.
- Alfred put up a crooked number of its own in the third inning, as the Saxons plated six runs to take a 6-4 advantage.
- The Soaring Eagles scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning to trim the deficit to 10-8, but would see Alfred score three runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 13-8.
- Kaden Bolt and Matteo Salvati recorded three hits each at the plate, while Brett Warden added a pair of hits.
- Luke Kraft suffered his first loss of the season as he made his first start for Elmira. Kraft allowed six runs (two earned) off three hits through three innings of work.
