HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Houghton opened the contest with four runs off three hits in the top of the first inning as Nate Hall delivered a grand slam for the Highlanders to left field.
  • Elmira would have a pair of batters hit by a pitch in the bottom of the frame as Brett Warden and Matteo Salvati reached base. Both would be stranded on base as the Soaring Eagles were unable to trim the deficit.
  • The Highlanders added a run in the second inning and another in the third inning, as Hall connected on his second home run to make it 6-0.
  • Warden started another rally for Elmira with a two-out single in the bottom of the third, followed by a single from Xander Canfield. The rally would be thwarted as Salvati went down on strikes to end the frame.
  • Houghton extended its lead to 7-0 with a double in the seventh inning and added runs in the eighth and ninth innings to round out the scoring at 9-0.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Connor Stone worked a lead-off walk, followed by a single from Bobby Cavalier. The Highlanders would get out of trouble with a double play and a strikeout to end the inning.
  • Ryan Wiser was given the loss after allowing six runs on six hits through four innings of work. Wiser added six strikeouts to go along with four walks.
  • Nate Lowry tossed 2.2 innings out of the bullpen for Elmira and allowed one run off two hits. Brennan Goin, John Yanity, and Robert Shabouk also pitched out of the bullpen for the Soaring Eagles.
