HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles and Highlanders each took a game to close a three-game series in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday at the Holding Point Recreation Complex. Elmira tallied 13 runs to take game one of the day, while Houghton put up 21 runs through eight innings to win game two and take the series 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Elmira broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning of game one with six runs, including a three-run home run from Nick Lees. The home run was Lees' third of the season and the 10th of his career for the Soaring Eagles.
- The Soaring Eagles also had run-scoring hits in the third inning from Xander Canfield, Matteo Salvati, and AJ Ramirez.
- Connor Stone delivered a three-run home run of his own in the fourth inning for the Purple & Gold to extend the lead to 10-0. The home run was Stone's sixth of the season and the 11th of his career for Elmira.
- Elmira added a pair of runs to extend its lead to 13-1 in the sixth inning on run-scoring doubles from Brett Warden and Salvati.
- The Highlanders looked to mount a rally as they scored a run in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh inning.
- Lees finished the game with four RBIs for Elmira, while Salvati went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Logan Pizzullo recorded his second win of the season, as he tossed five innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits.
- Offense would come early and often in game two, as Houghton scored four runs in the top of the first inning, while the Soaring Eagles answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame.
- Elmira would take advantage of a pair of errors committed by the Highlanders in the first inning, as Stone reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman, allowing a pair of runs to score to make it 4-4.
- Ramirez followed with a two-run single to right field to give Elmira a 6-4 advantage on the scoreboard.
- Houghton would knot the score in the third inning and eventually retake the lead after scoring seven runs to make it 12-6.
- Lees and Stone both added run-scoring hits for Elmira in the sixth inning to trim the deficit to 17-8, while Brandon Policar singled in the bottom of the eighth inning to plate a pair of runs.
- Lees, Stone, and Bryan Jimenez each recorded a pair of hits in the contest for Elmira, while Carter Matus worked a pair of innings out of the bullpen and allowed one unearned run on three hits.
