From Faceoffs to Finish Lines: Women's Ice Hockey Duo Completes Lake Placid Ironman

Lake Placid, N.Y. – Two members of the women's ice hockey program recently completed one of the world's most demanding endurance events, the IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon, showcasing dedication, perseverance, and mental toughness that extends beyond the rink.

MK Boyle crossed the finish line in 14:05:38 followed by teammate Iliana Smith at 15:08:38.

IRONMAN Lake Placid is one of the premier long-distance triathlons in North America. Athletes begin the day with a 2.4-mile swim in Mirror Lake before tackling a challenging 112-mile bike ride through the Adirondack Mountains. The event concludes with a 26.2-mile marathon, bringing the total race distance to 140.6 miles. Competitors must complete the entire course within 17 hours, making simply reaching the finish line a remarkable achievement.

For Boyle and Smith, finishing the race is a testament to months of disciplined training, commitment, and resilience while balancing the demands of collegiate athletics. The physical and mental endurance required to complete an IRONMAN mirrors many of the qualities that define successful student-athletes: preparation, determination, and the ability to overcome adversity.

Their accomplishment adds to an already impressive athletic resume and reflects the competitive spirit that they bring to the women's ice hockey program both on and off the ice.

We are proud of Boyle and Smith and congratulate them on this extraordinary achievement and their successful completion of IRONMAN Lake Placid!
