Former All-American Kurt Kalweit ’84 enters his 25th season as the volunteer assistant coach for his alma mater in 2024-25. He previously served as an assistant coach under Glenn Thomaris following his professional career.

Following one of the most prolific careers in Elmira College history, Kalweit graduated from with records for most goals (39) and power play goals (15) in a season, and as the program’s second-leading point scorer (183). His 95 career goals currently rank fourth all-time and his 183 career points are fifth.

In his final season donning a Purple and Gold sweater, Kalweit totaled 24 goals and 49 points to lead the team in both categories for the third consecutive season. That season he became the second Soaring Eagle to be honored as an All-American.

After graduation, Kalweit played four professional seasons, first in the International Hockey League from with Toledo (1985-86) and Flint (1986-87). He then played for Karhu-Kissat in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, from 1987-89. In his two seasons in Finland, the left winger scored 55 goals and 94 points in 76 games.

Kalweit is a teacher at Elmira City School District’s Hendy Elementary School. Originally from Needham, MA, he received his bachelor’s degree from Elmira College in 1984 and completed his master’s degree at EC in 1995.
