Michael Bryant '17 fueled the men's soccer team to a pair of wins last week, the first a come-from-behind victory over SUNY Canton, and the latter a conference win over Houghton College. He scored twice in each game, including both game-winners, to continue his torrent scoring streak.
Although Soaring Eagles were down 2-0 at halftime against the Kangaroos, Bryant aided the comeback with the game-tying penalty kick in the 75th minute. He then headed in the go-ahead goal inside the right post in the 80th minute off of a corner kick from Tony Barraco '18. The Soaring Eagles' striker extended his multi-goal streak to three games against the Highlanders, scoring a header in the 41st minute and a PK in the 55th minute.
The Portola Hills, CA, native has pieced together one of the best seasons in the last decade for the Purple and Gold. Bryant's 16 goals and 35 points rank fourth and 10th most, respectively, in a single season. He's the first player since Joe Sears '98 did so in 1997 to score 35-plus points in a year. He is currently among the nation's leaders in goals per game (second, 1.33), goals (fourth), points per game (fifth, 2.92) and points (ninth).
Bryant and the EC men's soccer team travel to SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday, October 20th, for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference matchup with Hawks.
