Valverde led the EC Men’s Soccer team to a 3-0 week as they beat up on three non-conference opponents. On Monday, the third year midfielder tallied one goal and dished out two assists, while placing two shots on net in a 6-0 win over Baptist Bible.
Valverde was named Most Valuable Player of the Utica College Invitational, leading the Soaring Eagles to wins over Lehman College and Medgar Evers College. Saturday in a 5-4 come from behind win he registered a goal and assist along with three shots on goal. Sunday against Medgar Evers the Costa Rica native notched another five shots on target, while finding the back of the net twice.
On the week Valverde tallied a remarkable four goals, three assists and 10 shots on goal. In addition to his impressive individual performance the Men’s Soccer team was named tournament champions at Utica. Both the Purple and Gold and the Pioneers went 2-0 on the weekend but EC took home the title. Tournament rules state that the tie-breaker is goal differential (Both Utica and Elmira were +11), followed by goals scored. Elmira scored 15 goals total, compared to Utica's 12.
The EC Men’s Soccer team returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Cazenovia College at 4:00 p.m. on Campus Field.
