Zavadska paced the Women’s Volleyball team to a 5-0 start in the first week of the season averaging an astonishing 5.83 kills and 2.06 digs per set, while hitting .314. The senior finished the week with 105 kills, 37 digs, 15 assists and seven service aces. Over the weekend the Soaring Eagles went 4-0 to capture the Elmira College Invitational as Zavadska was named Tournament MVP. For her impressive week she was also named Empire 8 Player of the Week.
On Wednesday against Pitt Bradford in EC’s season-opening 3-0 win she finished with a double-double pounding out 15 kills and recording 10 digs, while hitting .343. The two-time reigning Empire 8 Player of the Year then nailed 17 kills and six digs in a sweep of Wells Friday, followed by a 21 kill performance where she hit .302 in a 3-1 win over RIT.
On Sunday Zavadska finished with another double-double in the form of 19 kills and 11 digs, hitting a week-high .432 in a sweep of Brockport. She capped off the week as Elmira defeated conference foe Houghton in five sets as the senior tallied 33 kills and nine digs and was responsible for 28 points. The 33 kills were the most by an EC player in a match since Kristen Wheaton tallied 35 kills Nov. 12, 2004 against SUNY New Paltz.
The EC Women’s Volleyball team returns to action Friday when it travels to Pittsburgh, PA to take part in the Carnegie Mellon Tournament. The Soaring Eagles square off with Wooster College at 2:00 p.m.
