Meghan Fonfara '18 finished the weekend with a pair of goals and one assist to help the No. 2-ranked Soaring Eagles sweep Utica College, handing the Pioneers their first losses of the season.

In the 4-1 win at the MAC Ice Arena on Saturday, Fonfara earned the primary assist on the game-winning goal, scored by Katie Granato '19 at 12:50 in the second period. The Elma, NY, native then rallied the Purple and Gold to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Pioneers at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Sunday. A second period power-play goal from Taylor Osowski gave Utica a 1-0 lead in the second period, an advantage they maintained through most of the third period as well. Fonfara, however, knotted the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal of her own with 5:02 remaining in regulation. Then, with only 1:04 left, she struck for the game-winner by firing a shot off the rebound past Utica goalkeeper Keira Goin.

On the season, the second-year forward leads the Soaring Eagles with seven goals and nine points. She is also tops in power-play goals with four and game-winning goals with two, representing career highs in all four categories only six games into the season. Fonfara currently ranks second in the nation in power play goals, tied for third in game-winners and fifth in goals per game (1.17).

The EC women's ice hockey team will travel to Middlebury, VT, this weekend to participate in the Cardinal-Panther Classic. The Soaring Eagles will take on the hosts from Middlebury College on Friday, November 27th at 4:00 p.m., and will face Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, November 28th at 5:00 p.m.
