Tyler Theodoulou '18 guided the EC men's ice hockey team to its first victory of the year on Saturday in a wild 8-6 shootout with Lebanon Valley College in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The junior from Bedford, New Hampshire, paced the Soaring Eagles with two goals and tied the team high with three points in the win, with both marks representing new single-game career highs.
Both of Theodoulou's goals were netted on the power play, as Elmira converted four of its six extra-man opportunities after starting the year with just one goal on 18 tries. His first tally was the last of EC's five-goal run in the first period. Midway through the second period, the third-year forward recorded the eventual game-winning goal on the man-up opportunity, which gave the Purple and Gold a 7-3 cushion. In the third period, Theodoulou fed rookie Connor Powell'20 with the primary assist on an insurance goal at the 1:57 mark, which proved to be crucial, as the Soaring Eagles fended off a late Dutchmen surge for an 8-6 win.
His career game on Saturday moved Theodoulou into a tie for the ECAC West lead in both power play goals (2) and goals per game (0.50) Those two power-play tallies also doubled his previous single-season high.
The Elmira men's ice hockey team continues its ECAC West road trip with a pair of games this weekend, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. tilt against Neumann in Aston, Pennsylvania, on Friday, November 11th.
