Justin Porrett '19 paced the EC men's basketball team in a pair of contests at the University of Rochester's Holiday Inn Rochester Downtown Tournament over the weekend. The fourth-year guard collected team highs in points (16.5) and assists (5.5) per game and was second with a 6.5 rebounds-per-game average. As a result, he was included on the All-Tournament Team.
The Dumont, New Jersey, native shot the ball well against the host Yellowjackets, as he finished 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) from the field, and went 3-of-4 (75.0 percent) from both 3-point range and the foul line. His trio of 3-pointers marked a season-high, and Porrett amassed eight boards with seven dimes. His efforts helped EC race out to an early lead and put a scare into a U of R team that received votes in the latest national poll. On Sunday against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Porrett posted 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one steal. He made a season-best five free throws against the Engineers, helping the Soaring Eagles collect a single-game season-high 31 foul shots.
A versatile do-it-all guard, Porrett leads the Purple and Gold in assists per game (7.7), rebounds per game (7.3) and steals, and is second in points with 15.0 per game. He ranks 11th in the Empire 8 Conference in scoring, sixth in rebounding, and leads the league in assists.
Porrett and EC men's hoops will hit the hardwood inside Speidel Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 28, in a non-conference matchup against Keuka College at 7:00 p.m.
