Pine Valley, NY -- The Elmira College Field Hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to the Lakers of SUNY Oswego this afternoon. The Soaring Eagles gave up 4 first half goals which proved to be too much ground to make up on a cold and rainy afternoon.
EC came out of the gates strong, controlling the first 10 minutes of play. The Soaring Eagle offense kept the pressure on the Lakers as they were in their half for the majority of the 10 minutes. Unfortunately for the Purple and Gold, the Lakers would register a goal at the 16:03 mark. This goal would spark the Lakers offense as they would score three more in the half. Elmira would have their opportunities in the game as they would tally 10 first half penalty corners but would fail to convert any of those chances to goals.
The second half was a stalemate as first year goalie Lauren Thomas '14 (Marshfield, MA -- Marshfield) would make 12 second half saves. She would allow one goal in the second half as a loose ball would make its way to the back of the goal.
With today's loss the Soaring Eagles drop to 0-9 on the 2010 season. They will look to put an end to the losses as they host Stevens Tech. during Parents Weekend on Saturday, October 9th at 1:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center in Pine Valley, NY.
