Pine Valley, NY – EC Women's Hockey came into today's contest looking to make it a weekend sweep of the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland. Elmira was victorious in game one as they put forth a dominant effort en route to an 8-0 victory.
The Soaring Eagles wasted no time in today's contest as
Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers, PWHL) scored her team leading ninth goal of the season just 1:29 into the game. Charron would beat the goaltender on the right side as she took on several defenders after receiving a string of passes from
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- NAHA, JWHL) and
Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select, JWHL). Elmira would keep the pressure on the Red Dragons as they out-shot them 15-to-5 but would fail to produce another score. Elmira would enter the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, both teams would have several quality scoring opportunities but only the Soaring Eagles would convert for a goal. First year talent
Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda, TOEHL) would register a goal at the 10:04 mark on a power-play opportunity.
Amanda Ritzel '11 (Spencerport, NY -- Toronto Rattlers) would fire a shot from the blue line that would make its way to teammate
Lauren Campbell '12 (Erie, PA -- Chatham University) who would push the puck to Lamoureux for an easy score on an open net. EC would hold on to the 2-0 lead going into the third period.
The third period would prove to be uneventful as neither team would score, resulting in a 2-0 victory for the Soaring Eagles.
Lauren Sullivan '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Markham-Stouffville Stars, PWHL) would earn the win for the Soaring Eagles as she made 19 saves in 60 minutes of action. Sullivan improves her 2010-11 record to 4-2-1.
With today's win Elmira improves to 3-0-1 in ECAC West competition and 5-2-1 overall. EC will be back in action on December 4th as they travel to Utica, NY to take on the Pioneers of Utica College. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
