Three First Period Goals Leads to First ECAC West Win

Oswego, NY -- The EC Women's Hockey team earned their first ECAC West conference win of the 2010 season as they defeated the Lakers of SUNY Oswego 3-1. Elmira put the pressure on the Oswego early as they were able to tally three first period power-play goals.

Elmira struck first in the contest as first year talent Tori Charron '14 (Goodwood, ONT -- Aurora Panthers, PWHL) scored just 4:14 into the period. Charron's goal would come on Elmira's first power-play opportunity. Katy Walker '12 (Edmonds, WA -- Colorado Select, JWHL) would register an assist on the goal.

EC would increase their lead as captain Alex Bresler '12 (Golden, CO -- Colorado Select, JWHL) scored a power-play goal at the 9:49 mark in the first period. Madison Johnston '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Toronto Aeros, PWHL) and Tanis Lamoureux '14 (Canton, MI -- Victory Honda, TOEHL) would tally assists on the game winning goal. Less than two minutes after the Bresler goal, Charron would give EC more cushion as she would net her fourth goal of the season. Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- NAHA, JWHL) and Caitlin Metcalf '13 (Calgary, AB -- Edge School for Athletes, JWHL) would be credited with assists.

Elmira would allow a goal in the third period but that was all the Lakers would get as EC would cruise to a 3-1 victory. Samantha Maguire '13 (Findlay, OH -- Ohio Flames, TOEHL) got the start in net this afternoon for Elmira. She made 19 saves in 59:57 minutes of work in her 2010 debut. With the win Elmira improves to 2-1-1 on the year and will look to add another two wins as Elmira hosts Manhattanville College in back-to-back games next weekend.
